Displays intelligent solutions for a sustainable urban lifestyle
Four locations around the Expo
BASF celebrates 125th anniversary of China presence

"As the world's leading chemical company, BASF doesn't just make chemicals-we help create relationships between people.  As far back as our presence at the Vienna Expo in 1873, BASF has been leveraging these important platforms to meet and engage members of the community, the next generation, government officials, potential customers, and even our own employees," said Dr. Martin Brudermueller, Member of Board of Executive Directors, BASF SE, responsible for Asia Pacific.

"We are very glad to participate in the Expo 2010 in Shanghai during this milestone year, which marks the 125th anniversary of our first delegated BASF representative to China, in 1885.  Today, BASF plays an important role in fostering sustainable urbanization, by offering intelligent solutions to help address the issues brought about by climate change and enhanced lifestyles. This fits well into the theme of the Shanghai Expo, 'Better City, Better Life" said Mr. Johnny Kwan, Chairman, BASF Greater China Country Board. .

BASF at the German Pavilion

At the German Pavilion, BASF is displaying innovative exhibits to enhance future lifestyles.

PURE Concept Shoe is made of 100% polyurethane (PU). The versatility of this material enables a greater freedom of design and also provides excellent abrasion resistance, shock absorption and comfort. This material is durable and slip-resistant.

In the same display area, visitors can experience MYTO, a cantilever chair made entirely of the engineering plastic, Ultradur® High Speed, which has an extraordinary flowability. The chair was designed by the acclaimed German designer Konstantin Grcic and developed in collaboration with the Italian furniture producer Plank and BASF.  Ultradur® High Speed, the engineering plastic, is also displayed in form of granules together with three miniatures of the MYTO chair.

Micronal® PCM is a phase change material consisting of microencapsulated wax spheres. This wax melts and crystallizes within the human comfort range at temperatures between 21 to 26 C. During this process, it absorbs and releases vast amounts of heat from and to the environment. Micronal® PCM is used to manage indoor temperatures, aimed to keep them inside the human comfort range by absorbing surplus heat during the day and releasing it during the cooler night.

Visionary slides showcase the applications of certain organic materials (selected dyes and polymers) which have similar functions to semiconductors. They can be utilized in organic electronic applications such as RFIDs, OLED and OPV (Organic Photovoltaics). OPV may be able to offer a breakthrough in terms of energy costs for consumers through their less expensive production processes and ultra thin nm-scale material layers in the device stack.

Additionally, an exhibition summarizes "Germany and China-Moving Ahead Together", an initiative of Germany presenting business-related, cultural and social projects in China which BASF supported as an Official Partner since its launch in 2007 in Nanjing.
